Men's Health Services

At Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center, we’re putting out the “Welcome” mat for men. Too often, men think that regular health checkups are meant only for women and children. We want you to know that good health is for men, too. And good health is not an accident. It comes from good habits – habits like eating well, getting enough rest, not smoking or using drugs, and visiting your doctor for your annual checkup.

So, men: “Welcome.” At EPFMC, our primary care doctors take care of men in our Adult Medicine Clinic.

Preventive Care

The basis of our Wellness Care for Men is disease prevention and equipping our patients with the tools for a healthy lifestyle through:

  • Regular checkups
  • Health education
  • Family planning
  • Managing chronic disease

What Happens during a Checkup?

We focus on preventive care and diagnosing any existing health concerns by:

  • Taking a detailed medical history to uncover any areas needing special attention
  • Screening to diagnose anything that is hurting or bothering you
  • Keeping your vaccinations up to date
  • Prescribing medications or ordering further tests or x-rays when needed
  • Counseling patients on habits that lead to good health – for example, good nutrition
  • Listening for signals that nonphysical issues might be a cause for concern

Screening is important, because it can help us uncover problems early, when they are usually easier to treat. We’ll screen you for many common chronic illnesses or problems in men, such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Prostate cancer
  • STDs
  • Colorectal cancer (starting at age 50, earlier if you have a family history)
  • Prostate cancer
  • Depression or stress
  • Health-threatening lifestyle habits (smoking, drugs, multiple sex partners, poor nutrition, not enough sleep)

Your Healthcare Team

In addition to the doctors and nurses you’ll see during your checkup, at EPFMC, you also have access to our:

If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, tell your doctor. Your checkup is the time to discuss anything that affects your ability to be the best you. If you need someone to talk to, your doctor will bring in our health counselor to see you. She will talk with you alone right in the examination room. You don’t have to make an appointment to go see her at another time or in another place.

If you’re out of work and having problems meeting basic needs, your doctor can connect you with our case manager. She may be able to assist you and your family in getting services, such as food vouchers, clothing, and help paying utility bills, from other agencies.

We also have treatment programs for managing chronic diseases. Remember, we’re here to treat your physical and your emotional needs.
