Healthcare Services for Women

Woman. Mother. Wife. Daughter. Working woman. Caretaker. You may wear many hats and perform many roles, but at Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center, we know who you are. You’re a VIP, the very important person that the people you love depend on.

In the Adult Medicine Clinic at EPFMC, we specialize in taking care of all the very important women who walk through our doors. We want you to know that, in us, you’ve found a healthcare home. Think of us as a full-service community clinic that can provide high-quality care for you and your entire family.

Our healthcare services for women focus on:

  • Preventive care
  • Family planning
  • Managing chronic disease

Preventive Care

The heart of our Well-Woman Care is preventive care through:

  • Regular checkups
  • Gynecological care
  • Mammograms
  • Health education

Gynecological care and mammograms are provided to our patients in both our Women’s Health Center and the Adult Medicine Clinic. You can contact the Women’s Health Center directly at 213-747-5542, ext. 3356.

What Should I Expect During a Checkup?

During a checkup we ask you a lot of questions. We want to get a clear picture of who you are and your health. We also want you to ask us a lot of questions. Your questions tell us the things that matter most to you. This is not the time to be shy or embarrassed. We care about all of you – both your physical and emotional health. So ask your doctor anything that is on your mind.

To diagnose any existing health issues, your doctor will:

  • Take a detailed history of your health and that of your family, including your parents and grandparents
  • Screen for chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and STDs
  • Order more tests or x-rays if you need them
  • Find out what medications you’re taking
  • Prescribe medications if you need them
  • Counsel you on habits that lead to good health – for example, making sure you’re eating nutritious meals, getting enough rest, not smoking, and exercising on a regular basis
  • Ask you whether you’re depressed, sad, anxious, or often unhappy
  • Refer you to other services at EPFMC or other agencies if you need them

Bring any medications that you’re taking. This helps your doctor get a more complete picture of your health. Write down questions you have and notes on your family’s medical history if you think you might forget something. Tell your doctor anything you think it’s important for him or her to know.

More Preventive Care Services in the Adult Clinic

We use a model of care that brings together professionals to treat or solve many of the problems we identify in our women patients. We don’t want you to have to go elsewhere to solve a health need. In addition to the doctors and nurses you’ll see during your checkup, at EPFMC, you also have access to our:

The health counselor works closely with our doctors. If you’re stressed or depressed and need someone to talk to, she is right there in the Adult Medicine Clinic. Your doctor will invite her into the examination room for you two to talk alone.

If you’re out of work and need help with basic necessities, your doctor can connect you with our case manager. She may be able to help you get services from other agencies, such as food vouchers, clothing, and help paying utility bills. She can also assist you in filing a police report for protection from domestic violence.

Remember, we’re here to treat your physical and your emotional needs.
